A Note From Our Editor: May 2020

A Note From Our Editor: May 2020

This past month has been a very busy time for us at Weddingbells. As spring has sprung across Canada, we have seen the transformation of what is traditionally known as wedding season morph into a new reality for so many couples. We are finally seeing COVID-19 implemented restrictions easing in some provinces but it’s a gradual roll out and one thing that has become abundantly clear is large social gatherings are off the books for now.

We have been heartened to hear of couples impacted by the pandemic who have found a way to celebrate their wedding day in a special way. Intimate weddings, mircomonies, petite weddings…all names for a burgeoning new sector of the wedding business which both couples and wedding vendors across the country have embraced.

We have continued our commitment to keeping you educated and inspired about wedding planning—smaller doesn’t have to mean it's not amazing and an absolute dream-day. Some stories of note from the past month include a deep-dive into what pop-up weddings involve and why they are a perfect choice for pandemic times; why booking a weekday wedding is a good idea (and will become a norm for so many couples). How to plan a beautiful wedding at home. And since we can’t travel for weddings right now, how to bring your favourite destination to your party. We also continue to look towards self-care and how you can combine that with wedding planning; and we have fun ideas to mark your original wedding date if it’s been postponed because that definitely deserves a celebration.

From a pretty perspective, this month has also seen the launch of several bridal collections for the upcoming season! See the latest gowns from Justin Alexander, Maggie Sottero, Morilee, Mikaella Bridal David’s Bridal, Savannah Miller and Ines Di Santo (it’s a season of bows and we are here for it!). Online contributor Krystal Young of Snowberry Botanicals shares why colour is BIG for wedding flowers now; and on a floral note, we have recommendations on how to fill your Insta feed with the very best floral inspo in Canada—these designers are must follows!

I'm excited to share on On May 28th we will be kicking off a new virtual series! I will be hosting the first Weddingbells “In Conversation” event on Zoom and will have four of Canada’s premiere wedding experts from across Canada joining me to chat about events and wedding planning in 2020/2021. Laura Atendid0 from Laura & Co. Events, Aly Armstrong from Events by Aly, Melanie Aubin from Foudamor Events and Lexi Haslam from Lexington & Co. Events will offer their thoughts and expertise. Join us here at 5 p.m. EST.

Lastly, I am absolutely thrilled to introduce our redesigned and reimagined website to you. Several months in the making, we are so proud of our fresh, modern and clean look which is easier to navigate and find all the wedding inspiration you need. Thanks to the digital team at Weddingbells for all their amazing efforts! Enjoy the site and know that we are currently putting our Fall & Winter 2020 issue together (available August 7th) and it's going to be an absolute beauty.

We love hearing from you and interacting on our social platforms—we’re @weddingbellsmag on InstagramTwitter and Facebook whenever you want to get in touch.
