A Vintage Persian Wedding In Vancouver

A Vintage Persian Wedding in Vancouver - Newlyweds

Negar and Soroush met through mutual friends at a concert, where they exchanged a few words. Days later, the would-be-couple reconnected. "Our story began with talking for hours, and eventually we fell in love," Negar recalls.

The couple got engaged on a snowy day in Vancouver back in December of 2016. Soroush told Negar that he was having a family event happening at his home and insisted she come. "I didn't want to go as I was feeling unwell but Soroush was persistent," Negar says. When she pulled up to his house, she was the only person there and the house door was left ajar. Inside there was an aisle of beautiful flowers and candles, with string lights hanging from the ceiling and Soroush waiting for Negar on bended knee.

Their wedding was planned by Hasti of La Vista Events and held at the Vancouver Club. The celebration had a vintage theme to complement the venue's traditional-looking space, which included dark wood, large chandeliers and stone fireplaces. "We naturally chose the colours gold and blush to complement the venue," Negar explains. The pair also incorporated classic-looking crystal candle holders with a wide array of garden flowers mixed with light-coloured roses.

It was important to the couple to have a traditional Persian wedding ceremony, which included a Sofreh Aghd, a traditional wedding ceremony spread that included nuts, sweets and candelabras, among other special items. Negar's uncle was the officiant for the wedding.

The newlyweds' first dance was the culmination of three-months of rehearsals. "The passion that we had put into performing the dance made it all that much more fun and special," Negar shares. Another important reception moment for Negar was the father-daughter dance. Negar's father was excited and nervous to dance in front of the crowd but when the time came, he embraced it wholeheartedly. "This was a special moment for me, my father doesn't dance," she shares. "Dancing with my father was a very emotional moment for me and I am proud of him for everything that he has done for me."
