Claire and Scott, two actors from Toronto, met on the set of CTV's Satisfaction. "I was meeting a friend on set, and Scott was on the show," Claire says. A week later, the pair bumped into each other at a film festival, where their films were playing back-to-back, and they ended up exchanging contact info. "We had our first date on July 8, 2013, the night of the massive flood in Toronto!"
On the day Scott planned to propose, Claire was notified of a last-minute audition. "We were staying at a friend’s house in Los Angeles and Scott had planned a romantic sunset proposal followed by a celebratory dinner with friends," Claire recalls. "He still managed the sunset proposal but I was in such disbelief I made him do it again so I could give a proper 'yes!'"
The couple chose a vibrant and colourful Mediterranean theme for their wedding. "We wanted to break the mould of having a pastel wedding, so we referenced bold hues from the south of France, Spain and Portugal," Claire shares. "Scott has Portuguese heritage and we also have an affinity for the Spanish-style homes in Los Angeles, where we spend a lot of time."
Flowers played a key role in the decor of their wedding, and included bright blooms from all over the world. "Stef from Bourbon Rose was top-notch at locating florals for every detail, from the bouquet to the table runners, including sourcing king protea from South Africa, where we visited just before the wedding," Claire says.
The couple incorporated the talents of their friends and family into their wedding. "My friend Emma sang 'La Vie en Rose' as I walked down the aisle and Scott’s best man, Walker, did an exceptional rendition of 'Trouble' by Ray LaMontagne for our first dance," Claire explains.
The couple treated their guests to cuisine from three different food trucks and instead of a cake, they opted for a sweets table and unique edible favours. "Scott’s sister Jacqueline made beautiful pies and collected tons of enticing candy for the sweets table," Claire says. "The favours were Portuguese pastels de nata (custard tarts) freshly baked that morning—unfortunately Scott and I were too busy to eat them!"
