Winnipeg-based wedding photographer Charmaine Mallari met the love of her life, Jeff, in high school. "Our romance quickly blossomed, and we've been together ever since," Charmaine says. In 2016, the couple eloped in Hawaii, and decided to hold a reception in 2018 to celebrate with family and friends. "The reason we held a reception after two years of being married is we wanted the updated family photos and having everyone we loved in one place," Charmaine explains.
The couple decided to have a backyard celebration, and to bring the Hawaiian vibes back home to Winnipeg, they ensured their flowers and decor had a tropical feel. Palm leaves, coconuts and pineapple cake pops were among the elements. "We had a tiki head piñata filled with chocolate, candy and quarters for the kids, and they absolutely loved it," Charmaine shares. "In addition, I put together a list of Hawaiian and tropical songs for the celebration." The bride and groom also included a coconut toss game and a hula dance-off.
Charmaine and Jeff chose Elvis Presley's “Can’t Help Falling In Love” as their first dance song. "We are timeless oldies at heart and the simple lyrics resonate with us, since we were young when we met and fell in love fast."
