The road to Lexi and Adam's surprise wedding started with a surprise proposal—at a gas station! "I love surprises, as you can clearly tell, but I am rarely surprised," Lexi tells us. "Adam really wanted to catch me off guard, so his plan was to have minimal plans to propose, which for him is very out of character."
Adam's plan was to propose to Lexi on the drive up to his brother's Muskoka cottage, but they got lost on the way there. "Out of default we stopped at this 'boutique' gas station, and while I was using the restroom, Adam found the only grassy area in front of a pond and proposed. I was shocked!"
To go with the eclectic decor of The Broadview Hotel in Toronto, the couple chose decor with a focus on natural greens, burnished gold accents and dozens of candles for a comfortable, elegant atmosphere. "We balanced the formal, romantic setting with cans of beer and champagne when our guests arrived, and had champagne buckets filled with beer at the reception and fries at dinner," Lexi shares.
Walking down the aisle was a memorable moment for the couple. "Stepping into the most beautiful, intimate room filled with our closest family and friends who had just been completely taken aback with our wedding surprise was amazing," Lexi says. "When we walked down the aisle there was laughter, tears and just so much love."
But a surprise wedding wasn't all that Lexi and Adam had in store for their guests. The couple spoke first at their reception, discussing each milestone that led to their surprise wedding. And then they dropped their second surprise of the evening. "It wasn't until the very end of our speech that we announced our biggest milestone to date—July 22nd, our baby's due date!" Lexi says. "Needless to say, our guests were shocked. Our family and friends were completely surprised, and it was an incredibly special moment that we feel so grateful we were able to share with the people who are closest to us."
