Emilia and Brian's fairytale romance began in an unlikely way. The two started out as colleagues at the same large company but had never met in real life, with Brian working at the Toronto office and Emilia working out of Calgary. "Five years after I left to start my own company—I still networked with everyone via social media and I posted online asking for assistance moving," Emilia recalls. "Brian, basically a stranger, volunteered and showed up to help." Two months later they went to dinner, and the rest was history.
In an ode to the glamorous yet rustic appeal of their venue, Bellvue Manor, Emilia and Brian chose burgundy and gold as their main colours, with touches of pink and green. The colours complemented their venue and added drama while still giving a Spring-like vibe to their late-March celebration. "Tellie of Hunt & Gather Floral and Danielle from The White Book Co. worked their magic and brought the outside, in," Emilia says. "There were flowers and foliage everywhere—it was so beautiful."
The couple agreed that one of their favourite parts of their wedding day was the photo booth reception line. "We got to have fun, take photos and see everyone who came," Emilia explains. "It was a tiring two hours, but the photos are priceless." Also included on their list of favourite moments were their wedding vows, which they each chose to write in their own words, and the quiet moments that they were able to spend together prior to the start of the reception.
The food was beautifully presented, taking cues from the couples' Portuguese and Italian heritages. The first course was a Portuguese caldo verde soup for Brian, followed by a mushroom agnolotti with tomato sauce to pay homage to Emilia's roots. "For late-night, we served the midnight table of Portuguese fish and pastries," Emilia recalls. "It was divine!"
