Mary Anne and Martin first met while in their second year of nursing school. After realizing they lived in close proximity to one another, they spent countless days commuting back and forth to school, becoming good friends in the process. "We carpooled often while we were studying for our nursing exams," Mary Anne explains. "Our friendship then blossomed into the romance it is today."

The pair were engaged in Chicago at the John Hancock Center. Martin surprised Mary Anne by popping the question over dessert at sunset. "We dined in their restaurant with breathtaking views of the city," Mary Anne recalls with a smile. "Martin was nervous the whole time during dinner before he proposed."

When choosing a wedding theme, Mary Anne and Martin found it difficult to decide between elegant and rustic. "In the end, we thought, why not combine the two?" Mary Anne says. "We chose purple because it's my favourite colour, and it was the colour of the Henkaa dresses I fell in love with at a wedding show." The plum colour of the dresses was complemented by gorgeous florals that included blush roses and peonies and pops of lavender.

For Mary Anne and Martin, their wedding day was everything they dreamed of and more. "It was a celebration of two families coming together filled with lots of laughter and happy tears," Mary Anne says. "We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day."
