A Rustic Wedding in Clinton, Prince Edward Island - Bride and Groom

Laura and Michael's summer wedding was a rustic-chic affair on Prince Edward Island. The couple knew they wanted to have their wedding outdoors, and their barn venue, Clinton Hills, was the perfect choice. "I knew I wanted a mint colour to go with the lace and burlap details," Laura recalls. "We ended up going with mint after picking out the bridesmaid dresses, and I carried around a swatch from their dresses in my purse for a year, slowly accumulating things that would fit our theme."

The florals used to decorate the venue were all handpicked by the couple and the groomsmen; it turned out to be one of Laura's favourite details of the day. "We picked hundreds of lupins," Laura explains. "They grow all over Prince Edward Island on the side of the road in ditches, and they are so beautiful. It was one of the special touches that brought the island landscape into our wedding." The couple also gave lupin seeds as favours to their guests.

The wood slabs, used for the couple's centrepieces, were cut from trees that grew in Laura's parents' backyard. "My parents had trees taken down and my mom managed to get the arborist to cut enough slabs for every table," Laura laughs. Laura's parents and siblings all pitched in to create the ceremony backdrop, lawn signs and seating chart, among other details.

For Laura, walking down the aisle toward Michael was one of the best moments. "He was a puddle of tears as I knew he would be," Laura smiles. "It was the happiest moment of my life--I couldn't believe it was all happening." According to Laura, the moment was made even more special by requesting that the guests not take photos during the ceremony. "It made it the whole experience more intimate for everyone."
