Chris proposed to Sam one early morning atop the Haleakala volcano in Maui. The couple, who were on vacation at the time, drove there to watch the sunrise. "While we were waiting, we had to endure strong winds, rain and it was freezing cold! We nearly turned back," Sam recalls. "But then the sun rose and the clouds cleared. Chris found a perfect, quiet spot, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!"
The inspiration behind their wedding's rustic-chic theme was Chris's country roots and Sam's city upbringing. "We combined the laid-back feel of our venue with modern details," Sam explains. "We didn't stick to any one palette, but we wanted to incorporate the natural setting of our venue."
The floral arrangements by Coriander Girl were particularly instrumental in bringing the couple's wedding vision to life. "The flowers were breathtaking," Sam remarks. "The two rustic doors at the end of our aisle, which looked kind of like an arbour, were decorated beautifully."
The couple agrees that one of their favourite moments of the day was when their emcee performed a rap to "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, but rewrote all the words of the song to tell the story of Chris and Sam's relationship. "It was totally unexpected and everyone went nuts!" Sam laughs.
