A Rustic, Camping-Inspired Wedding In Banff

  |  By Mackenzie Patterson

A Rustic, Camping-Inspired Wedding in Banff - Bride and Groom

Nathan proposed to Leanne during a romantic weekend getaway at Banff Springs Hotel. "We went for a walk around Bow Falls and sat down on the rocks," Leanne explains. "He perched awkwardly and asked me, and I of course said yes!"

As a nod to their love of nature, the couple chose a rustic, camping-inspired theme for their wedding with plenty of woodsy details, wildflowers and laid-back touches. The lodge at Banff Norquay proved to be the perfect venue, with its exposed wooden beams and gorgeous mountain views. "We both enjoy snowboarding so we knew we wanted to get married in the mountains at a ski hill. We wanted it to feel casual and relaxed, so we incorporated elements of past camping trips to create the vibe we wanted," Leanne explains. To add a layer of elegance to the celebration, the couple chose a colour palette of white and gold with blue accents.

To keep the ceremony atmosphere casual, the couple added a wheelbarrow full of beer to the space with a sign encouraging guests to relax and grab a drink. "The wheelbarrows full of beer and root beer and the sign that said 'grab a beer and a seat' made the ceremony feel super relaxed, as we wanted it to be," Leanne says. The bride and groom also gifted their guests with rustic enamel mugs from Mountain Equipment Co-op to tie in the camping theme. "We felt they would make unique and useful gifts," says Leanne. "Our friends have been sending us pictures of them camping with the mugs, which is an awesome bonus," she adds.

While the rustic vibe of the celebration was a huge hit, Leanne says that nothing could ever top having her friends and family by her side on her big day. "Seeing how happy our friends and family were for us was unforgettable. We felt so much love and were so grateful to share the day with them," Leanne says.
