A Boho Wedding In Tillsonburg, Ontario

A Rustic, Boho Wedding in Tillsonburg, Ontario - Bride and Groom

After hiding champagne and glasses in a bush along their favourite hiking trail, Alex led Julie to their usual resting spot and asked her to pose for a picture with their dogs. "When I looked up to smile for the picture he was holding the ring box and walking towards me. I almost couldn’t believe it was happening," Julie says. "Then he said, 'this would be a great time to have some champagne' and ran off into the bush. He came back with a bottle of our favourite bottom-shelf champagne and we toasted to the next stage in our amazing life together."

Julie and Alex's wedding theme was a little bit rustic, a lot boho, and anything but traditional. With a colour palette of white, burgundy, blue, green and gold, the look was rich and lush with a hint of drama. To add personality and an eclectic edge to the mix, Julie sourced plenty of decor elements and furniture pieces from thrift shops and one-of-a-kind stores. "Much to Alex’s dismay, I collected trinkets and knick-knacks at every second-hand or antique store I could find. I’m sure he won’t admit it, but I know he secretly loved all of them!" Julie says.

The couple chose to hold their celebration on Alex's family farm. "Having the wedding on Alex’s family farm was so special. The rustic setting and large trees provided the perfect backdrop for our day, and it really fit with our laid-back, bohemian theme," Julie explains. "Building off the farm motif, we seated our guests with a mixture of square hay bales and old antique dining chairs."

Not only did Julie and Alex incorporate family members by choosing his farm as their wedding setting, but they also had relatives from both sides pitch in to make the entire day perfect from beginning to end. "Our families and friends put in countless hours to help make the wedding amazing. My uncle and Alex built our altar out of reclaimed wood they found on an old, abandoned trailer, and we used furniture from Alex’s father’s childhood farmhouse," Julie says.

Julie says that walking down the aisle was her favourite moment of the day. "Seeing each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle is the one moment we will never forget," she explains. "We hadn’t seen each other that day, as it was one of the only traditions Alex was refusing to negotiate. It was completely worth it!"
