A Romantic Winter Wedding In Banff

  |  By Kimberly Aglipay

A Soft and Romantic Winter Wedding in Banff - Bride and Groom

It was at their best friends' wedding that Alicea and Ryan first met. "We were both in the wedding party," Alicea explains. "I didn't know it the time, but Ryan had asked the groom if he could walk down the aisle with me."

Five years later, the couple got engaged at Emerald Lake in British Columbia. Alicea's suspicions that Ryan would propose were confirmed when they sat by the lake and Ryan pulled out an engagement ring. "He had hidden the ring in the truck the week before," Alicea smiles. "He totally surprised me!"

Having both grown up hiking, skiing and doing outdoor activities, Banff was the natural location of choice for the couple. With the vision of a romantic and soft wedding, they chose blush, gold and winter green to complement Mount Stephen Hall at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. On the day of their January nuptials, the couple woke up to the best weather they could have hoped for. "In January, you never really know what you will get for weather, so we were pleasantly surprised when the weather ended up being above zero!" Alicea says.

Some of the couple's favourite details included their cake topped with blush flowers, which Alicea made herself, and their desserts--custom Dairy Queen Blizzards. "My husband loves Dairy Queen, so instead of serving cake or another dessert from the resort, we brought in custom Blizzards for all of the guests," Alicea muses. "They were a hit!"
