A Romantic Midsummer’s Night-Inspired Wedding in Toronto

  |   By Sophie Diego

Ariahna and Warren have been inseparable since 2001. They first met in grade seven, in which Warren was the new kid in class. Over the school year, they slowly got to know each other but didn’t officially become a couple until grade eight.

Seventeen years later, Warren popped the question on a trip to Alberta. Ariahna remembers Warren stopping her for a quick photo to capture the scenery around them. “He pressed the button on the camera, but he didn’t run in to make the photo. Instead, he walked slowly, grabbed my hands, got on one knee, and proposed,” Ariahna says. “He caught the whole thing on video."

The concept of their wedding romance was inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream. "We’ve always gravitated towards spending time outdoors," Ariahna explains. "We love the romantic, free, green vibe of sunsets." Their wedding colours were blush and tan with splashes of green. “We felt that these colours of nature made a statement, and elevated the natural beauty of a summer evening wedding,” Ariahna shares.

The bridal party flowers were Ariahna’s favourite wedding detail. They worked with Blushing Willow, who was able to create the perfect floral arrangement that encapsulated the wild and free aesthetic that they were looking for.  The neutral creams and blush tones within the bouquets created an overall wild romantic vibe, with the addition of cappuccino hues and deep pinks. “I loved working with the florist to find the shape, flowers, and colours that would boost the life of the bouquets,” Ariahna says.

After dancing to their chosen wedding song, Brian McKnight’s "Never Felt This Way," the couple’s favourite moment at the reception was the first mosh pit that formed on the dance floor. "The energy was so palpable and everyone was just so excited for us," Ariahna shares. "We’ve been dating since we were 14. So needless to say, all of our friends and family were just over the moon to have witnessed something that was a long time coming."
