A Romantic, Elegant Wedding In Calgary

Darren planned to propose to Devon while the pair were taking their annual fall family photos. "I had zero idea it was happening—we had never even talked about rings," Devon admits. When they finished taking photos with their daughters, Devon asked the photographer to take a photo of just he and Devon, looking into each other’s eyes. "That’s when he started to propose and I totally freaked out," Devon recalls. "But obviously I said yes!"

The couple wanted their wedding to be simple, selecting neutral colours and some hints of light pink, with lots of white and greenery. "Our wedding planner, Rachel from Hera Weddings and Events, was seriously the best—she took my idea of 'simple' and turned it into this amazing day," Devon says. "We were also blown away by the flowers--they could not have been more perfect."

For both Devon and Darren, having their daughters walk down the aisle was the number one moment of the day. "Darren is not a very emotional guy but I knew when our daughters came down it would get to him," Devon reveals. "Having the kids be part of the wedding was extremely special."

Seeing everyone who travelled from near and far to be there meant a lot to the bride and groom. "Neither of us is from Calgary, and currently our home is in Michigan, since Darren plays in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings," Devon says. "It was awesome seeing faces we don’t get to see regularly and having everybody in one room celebrating with us!"
