Kyle proposed to Melissa after touring a champagne vineyard on a trip to Europe. “At the end of the tour, they took us out to the vineyard where they grow the grapes,” Melissa recalls. “They left us alone to walk through the vines and take photos. As I was taking as many panoramic photos as I could, Kyle got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.” The couple were ecstatic, and decided to keep their engagement a secret from their family until they returned, reliving the excitement when they told their friends and family about what happened.
Melissa and Kyle’s wedding decor was the perfect mix of nature and glamour. “We wanted something that we could look back on and always love,” Melissa explains. “A party you can have a lot fun at but would want dress up to attend.” Deep green tones were combined with white sequin tablecloths, while gold hues and wooden accent pieces pulled it all together. A faux tree with tea lights hanging from the branches added a romantic feel to their favour table.
Melissa and Kyle ensured that every detail of their wedding was unique to who they are as a couple. The guests were given personalized champagne bottles as wedding favours and even received the soundtrack to Melissa and Kyle’s wedding. Another creative detail was the guestbook—a globe painted with the words “I want to be with you everywhere” from their wedding song, "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac. The bride and groom went as far as to create a logo for their wedding, which could be seen on their custom stir sticks and on one of the three ice sculptures at their reception.
On the day of their wedding, the couple took part in two wedding ceremonies. One ceremony was just for family, and the other was for all guests to attend. They did this to stay true to their Catholic upbringing while maintaining the intimate atmosphere they wanted for their special day. “We loved how we got to have the intimate feeling of a small ceremony, and still were able to share our vows with everyone,” Melissa reminisces. “To see all the people I am the closest with all in one place was unreal. It was a real butterfly moment.”
