A Modern Seaside Wedding In Cape Breton

Laura and Gavin came up with their wedding theme by thinking about the mood they wanted to create for themselves and their guests. "The wedding theme was really 'how much fun can we jam into a long weekend for our favourite people?'" Laura explains. "We wanted great music, seafood, golfing and to spend time with guests against the backdrop of Cape Breton’s beauty."

The wedding location was a no-brainer. "Ingonish is a very special place for Gavin and I," Laura says. "We can never get enough of the beaches and mountain view from the Keltic Lodge." To complement the beauty of the view as well as the venue itself, Laura wanted to base the wedding decor on white, mixed metals and marble with touches of warmth from greenery and wood. "I love this combination in many different areas of design—it’s clean, modern and beautiful," she says. "When Gavin and I entered the reception space for the first time to dance with our twin baby boys on the beautiful marble floor, it was a marvelous moment."

A favourite detail for the bride was her custom dream dress. "I designed it with Katrina Tuttle and her team and it was the most fun process you could imagine," Laura says. "My dress was also incredibly comfortable: the layers of silk for the skirt were so light, and the beadwork and handmade silk flowers on the bodice were something special."

Music played a key role at the celebration, and the couple enlisted their musician friends to perform. "Our good friends, who are in the band Port Cities, surprised everyone with a song they wrote for us called 'Everybody Falls In Love With You,'" Laura says. "They are amazing musicians, so it was extremely special!"
