A Modern Romantic Wedding in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Conner and Selena met when they were both 14, at curling camp. They became friends and two years later began dating when they were both 16. "At that age neither of us had our license so our parents had to drive us back and forth to see each other," Selena recalls. The pair would be together for another 10 years before Connor popped the question.

The couple got engaged on Canada Day in 2017. Selena went to dinner with a couple friends with plans to meet Conner later for fireworks. The group spent longer than originally planned at dinner so when they got home Connor began rushing everyone to the park so they wouldn't miss the fireworks. "Once we got close enough to where we could see fireworks we stopped walking and he popped the question," she says. "I'm always late for everything, so it made sense that I was late for my own engagement."

Their wedding had a modern romantic theme. For colours they chose a palette including burgundy, blush and rose gold. The venue was the St. Boniface Golf Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The newlyweds decided to go simplistic with decor that included gold geometric centrepieces with gold mercury votive candles. "I loved the decor because it was simple and not overpowering," Selena explains.

It was important for Selena to have her dream gown on her wedding day. "As a little girl I dreamed of wearing the most beautiful dress for my wedding," Selena recalls. The dress she wore was a vintage Stella York design that was form-fitting and featured a stunning open back. "It made me feel beautiful all day," she shares.

One of the newlyweds' most cherished moments was the reception. "Connor and I have a lot of friends and family that like to spend their time on the dance floor," Selena says. Knowing the bride's favourite song was "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, the guests hurriedly rushed to her side when it started playing. "Everyone surrounded me as I jumped up and down in pure joy," Selena says.
