John and Jessie were engaged on Christmas Eve, with John proposing to Jessie in front of her family after dinner. "We celebrated with a bottle of champagne my brother had kept for a special occasion," Jessie shares. "And we had a toast with my mom's antique gold champagne glasses!"

For their wedding celebration, the couple wanted to highlight the classic elegance of their venue, the Fairmont Château Laurier, with a palette of white, blush, silver and gold. "We had custom-cut mirrored table tops to reflect all the lighting and make the room sparkle," Jessie reveals. Flowers adorned the chandelier above the sweetheart table at the reception, and cherry blossom trees with trailing wisteria and orchids added elegance to the space. The cake was also designed with real flowers between each layer.

"I also loved my Hayley Paige dress," Jessie says. "It really was my dream dress with custom-designed handmade lace sleeves from White Stain Bridal--they were important to me for the church ceremony, and removable for the reception."

The ceremony was one of Jessie's favourite parts of the day. "We got married in the church our family has attended for generations," she says. "The priest was the same priest who married my parents 35 years ago!"

The night ended with fireworks, which Jessie and John had coordinated with the "sound of light" fireworks display at Parliament Hill. "All of the guests gathered on the balcony after dinner," Jessie recalls with a smile. "They had a front-row view overlooking the Ottawa river."
