Alessia and Jamie went to the same summer camp as children and crossed paths years later while waiting in line for lunch in downtown Toronto. After running into each other again at a bar, Jamie asked Alessia out and the couple started dating. During a snowboarding trip in Quebec, Jamie had made arrangements with the ski resort to place signs on the hill to ask Alessia to marry him, but a simple conversation with another couple unravelled his grand plan.
“Near the top of the lift, the couple—who had apparently just seen the signs on their previous run—said, “your timing is so great, you’re about to see the cutest thing! Some young man is proposing to his girlfriend with signs that say ‘Lessi, will you marry me?’” Alessia says. “The couple started yelling at each other in French, and Jamie could only laugh... he never really had the opportunity to propose.”
The couple decided not to go with a particular theme, but to fill their celebration with special DIY touches and have the outdoors be the focus. Alessia designed the stationery and her mother baked homemade shortbread cookies as place cards and crafted the raspberry mountain wedding cake. Food was an integral part of the wedding—guests helped themselves to a raw seafood bar, barbeque, handpicked craft beers and homemade desserts. Tacos and ice cream were served as late-night treats.
Alessia and Jamie agreed that there was no better place to tie the knot than Alessia’s family farm in Campbellford, Ontario.
“We originally planned to find a venue in Toronto given the logistics challenges involved in bringing everyone out to Campbellford,” Alessia says. “But ultimately decided there could be no better venue in the world than in our own backyard.”
