James Logan fell in love with Kaylee Giffin the moment he laid eyes on her during a high school math class. At first, Kaylee did not share the same feelings. "He would ask me to hang out on MSN Messenger and I told him that I didn't hang out with people from school," Kaylee recalls. This changed in grade 11 when James returned from vacation in Florida sporting a puka shell necklace and golden tan. "I gave him a hug and told him he looked good. Soon enough, our friendship blossomed into a romance which turned into love and we never looked back," Kaylee says.
On their wedding day years later, James and Kaylee wanted to create a relaxed, backyard-style atmosphere for their guests. "I have always loved the idea of an al fresco wedding without a tent," Kaylee explains. Having decided not to order a tent or even have one on backup, James and Kaylee were praying for good weather leading up to the wedding. "We ended up getting so lucky with sunny skies and one of the most beautiful, pink sunsets I'd ever seen the day of our wedding," the couple shares.
The couple decided on a subtle palette of dusty rose and french blue to complement this laid-back vibe. "Funny enough, I learned after our wedding that the palette was similar to my parents' wedding in the 80's," Kaylee remarks. According to Kaylee, having an abundance of florals was the most important detail of their wedding day. The couple incorporated a mix of local cosmos, scabiosa, ranunculus, berries and foraged greenery in their décor. At the ceremony stood a garden-inspired arbor and seagrass baskets full of flowers anchoring the aisles. Rose petals were also scattered down the outdoor aisle and lavender was placed in paper cones for guests to toss after the couple said "I do!" In addition, the bride and groom's mothers wore custom floral bracelets. "We even had a floral collar made for our dog, Milo," Kaylee says.
As Kaylee walked down the aisle, her 10-year-old cousin sang Ed Sheeran's "Perfect." "Seeing James at the end of the aisle while the lyrics 'we were just kids when we fell in love' were sung made me feel so confident that I was about to marry my best friend who I fell in love with at 16," Kaylee says.
