Alex and Gabrielle first met through her family's deli business. "He came to visit every day for three years, and each time I took his order and made small talk with him. He later asked me out, and from that day forward we were inseparable," Gabrielle explains.
When it came time to tie the knot, it only made sense that the couple would draw inspiration for their wedding theme from their romantic engagement story. "Alex proposed at Castello Vicchiomaggio, an old castle in the countryside outside of Florence where I did my culinary training. While we were standing in the rose garden overlooking the Tuscan scenery, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him," she reminisces. "Our engagement story really helped to inspire our Italian wedding theme."
Alex and Gabrielle knew they wanted to capture the romance of the Tuscan countryside for their wedding, so they chose his parents' backyard in West Vancouver as their venue. With the backyard's lush and colourful garden, Gabrielle thought a navy, gold and coral palette would complement the setting best. "Seeing everything for the first time when we arrived at the house actually took my breath away. My dreams of what I had envisioned for months were coming true–it was perfect," she says.
In keeping with the Tuscan theme, the couple incorporated other subtle Italian details into the reception. "We had a gelato cart from Bella Gelateria instead of a wedding cake. We also served guests imported Lambrusco wine from Italy--the exact same brand we celebrated with in Italy the day we got engaged--and gave bottles of infused olive oil as favours," Gabrielle says.
While the reception was breathtaking, the bride says that the ceremony was hands-down the most memorable part of the day. "The moment we said 'I do' was unforgettable. Everything was perfect," she says.
