A chance work opportunity brought Sherry Holmes and Blake Steed together in 2012. At the time, Sherry and her team were completing and filming the rebuild of High Park's castle playground in Toronto. With only two weeks to construct the giant castle, Sherry's team decided to hire a framing company to help the project move quickly. Blake happened to be one of the framers. "He was pretty quiet, but I remembered his name as soon as I met him," Sherry recalls. After the project was complete, Sherry's company offered Blake a job. "We became friends while working on different projects, eventually started dating secretly and somehow ended up moving in together before we even realized it," Sherry explains.
Sherry and Blake got married on their 5th year anniversary in St. Lucia. With a gorgeous island backdrop, the couple decided to keep their wedding décor simple yet chic. For florals, they incorporated white roses and eucalyptus table runners. Their laid-back destination wedding involved a private surf & turf dinner at the Royalton's Rooftop Terrace set to an eclectic playlist of reggae and country music. "It took us a decent amount of time to settle on the right first dance song," Sherry says. The couple eventually decided on "Then" by Brad Paisley. "At one point, the lyrics are 'I can just see you, with a baby on the way,' which is totally ironic as we picked the song prior to finding out we were expecting a baby," Sherry says.
As Sherry was six-months pregnant at the time of the wedding, the couple decided to reveal the gender of their baby at the reception. "We knew we were having a girl early on, but kept it a secret and totally surprised everyone," Sherry recalls. The couple had their wedding party shoot off confetti poppers with pink paper for the big reveal. "It was a fun and memorable surprise," Sherry says. "Something to show our daughter one day."
Because Blake's dad passed away over five years ago, Sherry wanted to do something special to commemorate him. For her something blue, the bride had a piece of her father-in-law's blue sweater cut into a heart and sewn into her dress. "This way, both of our fathers walked me down the aisle," she says.
