A Gothic Glam Wedding In Toronto

  |  By Mackenzie Patterson

A Gothic Glam Wedding in Toronto - Bride and Groom

Giordana and Shane are the furthest thing from the typical couple, so naturally, they wanted their wedding to represent their individuality. Having decided from the start that they wanted their wedding to represent their distinct tastes, the couple asked their wedding planner, Renata De Thomasis of RDT Events + Beauty, to help create something beautiful, elegant and completely unique. "When I first met Renata and we chatted wedding design details, she knew exactly the route we wanted to go," says Giordana. "We expressed how we wanted the day to represent us, and Renata did a wicked job of illustrating that."

Dubbed "gothic romance," the design Renata dreamed up was equal parts drama, luxury and timeless beauty complete with edgy touches like skulls and studs. "The couple loves merlot reds and black (her engagement ring is a black diamond!) so immediately we went with a more moody, dramatic aesthetic to really make the day and design about them," Renata explains. Candlelight, crimson roses and rustic gold details contributed to the gothic aesthetic, while a show-stopping tiered cake coated in icing made to look like dripping wax tied the whole design together. "The cake was an element that was a perfect depiction of our style: the dripping wax idea paired with the deep red roses couldn’t have been more 'us' (and it tasted delicious, too!)," Giordana remembers.

The decor made the celebration unforgettable for both the couple and the guests, but the bride says that walking down the aisle to an instrumental version of "November Rain" was one of the more touching moments of the day. "It felt so magical walking toward Shane, surrounded by our family and friends. The mood was just right," Giordana says.
