Rachel and Jamie met when she moved to Calgary from Montreal. “We both ended up there after graduating university and accepting jobs with the same company. Timing wasn’t right when we first met, but our paths continued to cross and eventually we started dating,” Rachel explains.
Once they decided it was time to tie the knot, the couple knew right away that the Cascade Ballroom at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel would be the perfect venue for their celebration of love. “We instantly fell in love with the room the first time we saw it. It has a beautiful mix of gold, champagne and blue accents throughout, which we complemented with lighter, subtle tones of champagne, ivory and gold,” Rachel says. “It was an instinctive choice to let the venue showcase its natural charm.”
When the couple first saw the reception room fully decorated, it was already full of their closest friends and family. One of Jamie’s groomsmen had made a mixtape to kick off the festivities and introduce the bridal party, and both Rachel and Jamie say it was a highlight of the entire day. “I remember both of us stopping abruptly and looking at each other with mile-wide smiles on our faces. It was more memorable than we ever imagined,” Rachel says.
Another of the couple’s favourite moments of the day was when they slipped away for an hour between the ceremony and reception to take photos. “Our photography session got a bit adventurous, exactly how we wanted it. We arrived back at the reception dragging dirt, covered in dust and laughing about almost falling into a river–the important and formal parts were over and it was time to dance!” The bride laughs.
