A Cozy, Rustic Wedding in St. John's, Newfoundland

Shawn proposed to Chrissie on the night before her 30th birthday. The previous year, Shawn bought Chrissie a bottle of expensive champagne and she decided to save for a special occasion. "Before dinner, Shawn slipped the bottle into the fridge, hoping that I would see it when we returned but unfortunately for him, I started to fall asleep. He insisted that I get up and have a celebratory glass of wine," Chrissie shares. "I finally saw the bottle in the fridge and immediately declared that my 30th birthday wasn't special enough to break out the champagne, which was when he took the ring out of a nearby drawer and dropped onto one knee."

For their wedding, the couple hosted an intimate cocktail party at The Fifth Ticket Piano Bar in St. John's. "Our venue was the perfect combination of sophisticated, rustic, and warm. From the food to the red ceiling, everything about it was perfect," Chrissie says. "The only theme we had was that we wanted our wedding to be simple, chilled-out, and stress-free."

The couple chose navy as their wedding colour because it happened to be Chrissie's favourite colour at the time and went well with the winter season. And at the very last minute, Chrissie decided to add fake florals that included pinecones and lots of greenery with pops of gold.

For their first dance, pianist Kathy Stock performed "XO" by John Mayer. "Shawn and our amazing photographer, Sandra Lee, are huge John Mayer fans, and I am a recent convert as well," Chrissie explains. "The choice of our wedding song itself wasn't a big deal to us but we did want to make it personal and we thought it would convert beautifully to a solo piano/voice performance. Kathy did a beautiful rendition for us and absolutely nailed it!"
