Joanie and Aleem met while living in Philadelphia during their residency program at Temple University. Once back in Canada, Joanie went to work in Quebec, while Aleem returned to Toronto. Over the following four years, the couple pursued a long-distance relationship, travelling back and forth to see each other on weekends. It was two years into their relationship, during a romantic vacation to California, when Aleem popped the question. Aleem picked the perfect spot that evening, getting down on one knee and proposing to Joanie on a sailboat overlooking the sunset off the Pacific Coast.
To celebrate the start of a new life together, Joanie and Aleem approached their wedding with an elegant, romantic, and classic theme in mind. Old Quebec City was the perfect setting, with its refined cobblestone exteriors. "The chapel radiated elegance with its high ceilings and graceful arches," Joanie recalls with a smile.
One of the couple's favourite moments from the reception was watching a video telling the story of their relationship, complete with photos and their favourite music. But the greatest gift was seeing their families meet and mingle, the couple shares. "It felt so good to have both our families united in Quebec City."
