Nico and Claire met when they were both studying abroad in Singapore. “After that, we both went back to our universities to finish our final year,” Claire recalls. “Nico then moved to Toronto and the rest is history.”
Claire had always wanted a New Year’s Eve wedding, so the couple decided to have their wedding on December 31st. Their celebration was art deco-themed, with lovely gold accents. Guests wore black-tie attire to match the elegant decor. Friends and family flew in for the wedding from different countries around the world, including The Netherlands, Germany, Singapore and South Africa.
The couple moved back to Singapore in 2016, and with the help of family and friends, had to plan the wedding from afar. A favourite detail included their wedding cake, comprised of different types of cheese, as well as the lanterns and candles that lined the aisles.
Having a New Year’s Eve wedding allowed the couple to celebrate two events: getting married and the start of a new year. “One of the best moments was the New Year’s Eve countdown, where Nico and I stood on chairs and we all counted down, and at midnight, we popped a bottle of champagne,” Claire says.
