“Neither Alex or I wanted a theme for our wedding, bet we knew we wanted our wedding to be modern, elegant and fresh while also being timeless,” explains bride Anna of the gorgeous summer wedding day she and her husband Alex planned at the AGO. The couple chose the open and airy Walker’s Court area of the gallery. “The space is architecturally stunning and one of the first things we fell in love with—it was made even more beautiful by the flowers and decor provided by Rachel A. Clingen and her incredible team!”
Anna shares her and Alex wanted a ceremony that was short but full of meaning.Their celebrant Linda Stuart helped the couple build a ceremony which was unique and personalized from start to finish. “Linda also helped us craft our personalized vows,” Anna says. “Saying these words in a beautiful space surrounded by people we love made the entire ceremony incredibly memorable.”
The couple hosted 275 guests for their celebration and the colour palette that pervaded the entire event was a classic mix of white, nudes, chrome, greys, navy and greens. The couple say the overall design and décor for their day was one of the highlights. “We worked closely with Rachel A. Clingen and her entire team to bring our vision to life for our wedding,” Anna says. “We were very open to the design and materials, with everything anchored in our desire to have a timeless feel to the day. Everything was absolutely beautiful we were thrilled! Rachel was able to use the AGO spaces, which are themselves architecturally stunning, to inspire the design and celebrate the spaces rather than hide or overpower them.”
Another favourite detail of the day was the food. “We are food lovers and we wanted to make sure that the food at our wedding was unique and super tasty and reflected us as well as our cultural traditions. (I am Italian and Alex is Danish and German.) We were so impressed with the entire process, from filling out a questionnaire that asked us about our favourite childhood dishes to our tasting—the team at the AGO blew us away from start to finish.” The couple event sent their guest home with a little edible treat to remember the day—a bespoke cookie which featured a design inspired by their dog Daisy who could not be present for the day. “We sent guests home with a Daisy cookie and also made a donation to a local charity that provides patients the chance to visit with their family pet while staying in the hospital.”
The couple headed to The Broadview Hotel post-event and ended the whirlwind of their wedding day eating wedding cake in bed. “I wore my dress and Alex wore his tux—laughing about the day and reflecting. It’s such a fun memory for us both.”
