An Elegant Wedding In Ottawa, Ontario

Not having a distinct theme made wedding planning easier for Ashley Zajac and Peter Glen, who focused on integrating ideas and colours they loved into their elegant wedding celebration. “I didn’t want to be trendy, and I’m not keen on bright hues, so we picked muted shades like greys, light blues, fresh greens and whites, which we used in our floral centrepieces and table linens,” Ashley explains. The venue, which Ashley had seen when she attended Peter’s medical school graduation, was a natural choice with its stark look and floor-to-ceiling windows. “I knew the minute I saw it I wanted to get married there,” Ashley shares. “It’s one of the nicest places in Ottawa.” With help from their planner, Ashley and Peter invited guests for a gourmet sit-down meal catered by Thyme & Again. “Food was important to us, so we found a place that sourced locally,” the two explain. “Our favourite was the berry cream cake, which we served as dessert. We even had big bowls of local berries and whipped cream on the table to go with it.” Wanting to end the evening on a high note, the newlyweds asked their planner to recommend a good DJ. “She didn’t disappoint—the floor was packed and at some points during the night you couldn’t even get in,” Ashley laughs. “It was such a fantastic day, and to have our family and friends there to cheer us on was just amazing.”
