As soon as Edwin popped the question, Lisa says she went into full planning mode. The first item on her to-do list was deciding on a wedding theme. "Like all planning processes, adaptability is always important," says Lisa. "We had always envisioned a themed wedding. However, I had envisioned a Victorian themed wedding with dark reds and antique golds, while Edwin had envisioned a celebration inspired by Star Wars or some video game." she adds. "Instead of bickering over which idea was better, we decided to incorporate both ideas! Eventually we arrived on a mutual idea and we aptly named our wedding 'Victorian elegance with a touch of nerd'."
"When we found Chateau Le Jardin, with its high ceilings, beautiful chandeliers and detailed crown mouldings, I knew this was the place we had to have our reception," says Lisa. "It was the perfect setting for my Victorian themed wedding! The ‘nerd’ aspect came through our processional song, the "Mario Kart Love Song" (originally by Sam Hart), which I had secretly requested for Edwin."
While Lisa wore an exquisite Sophia Tolli gown, Edwin got decked out in a tux complete with pig cufflinks inspired by Lisa Simpson's wedding. The best man had MegaMan cufflinks and a special “Hand of the King” brooch from Game of Thrones. "The groomsmen wore camera and burger cufflinks, each representing their favourite things in life," explains Lisa.
Lisa put months of work into special DIY projects for her big day. The bride designed everything from the invitations to the seating chart. "I love lace and I love the colour red, so I incorporated the red lace throughout all the details; from our invitations to the chair covers," says Lisa. "I also gathered brooches that I’ve been collecting since high school, along with brooches gifted to me by my mother, mother-in-law, maid-of-honour and bridesmaids, to make a brooch bouquet. This brooch bouquet became something very meaningful to me on my wedding day."
Edwin said one of his favourite memories from the day was the dress reveal. "Personally, I think this was the biggest moment for me because of all the build up after months of watching 'Say Yes to the Dress,' learning what a sweet heart neck line is, and having the dress sitting casually in our bedroom but being unable to take a peek. It was a wonderful moment because I think that was the first moment when the reality of the day finally sunk in," recalls Edwin.
