Lainie and Scott met at a bar in Washington, D.C. while she was vacationing there with her family. They immediately hit if off, and six weeks later, Scott flew to Toronto to visit her. "We travelled to visit each other in D.C. and Toronto for a year before Scott moved to Toronto to live with me," she says.
The pair were visiting D.C. when Scott proposed in front of all his friends and family. "I immediately said 'yes,'" Lainie remembers. "We celebrated the next day at a Redskins game with a lot of friends."
The couple's wedding had a loose theme of vibrant colours and bright touches, which they carried through with a hot pink and lime green palette. Lainie's bold pink bouquet and the green and pink floral arrangements helped to bring everything together, while a photo shoot at the eclectic Jessgo art gallery on Queen Street West set the mood for an artistic and unique event. "Jessica took us into her studio next door where we had a ton of fun doing photographs in her different, wild rooms. We felt like we were at Andy Warhol’s factory," Lainie says.
Fittingly, Lainie and Scott chose the classic Cyndi Lauper hit "True Colors" as their first dance song. "We loved the song as it represented us seeing our true colours and being our true selves together. We also liked that it’s an anthem for celebrating diversity and encouraging people to be their true selves," Lainie says.
One of Lainie's favourite details from the day was the epic chuppah they had custom-made by Craig Gruzd at DT Floral and Decor. The chuppah framed the spectacular view of downtown Toronto and City Hall from the window of their venue, Arcadian Loft. "Our guests included friends and family that came in from USA, Australia, Israel, UK and China. I loved that they had a fabulous view of Toronto from both our ceremony and cocktail hour," Lainie says.
