After four years together, Lisa and Angela were vacationing in Mexico with one of their best friends, enjoying a week of surfing and authentic Mexican cuisine. As they were lounging by the pool enjoying the sunset view, Lisa felt it was the right moment to propose. “We had talked about marriage and knew we had already chosen each other for forever. I don't know what made me do it then and there, as I had nothing prepared; it just felt like the right moment. I was floating in the pool below Ange who was sitting on the side of the pool dangling her feet in the water. I was holding onto Ange's ankles and looking up at her, feeling so lucky to have someone like her in my life. I then asked Angela if she would marry me. She looked down at me with tears in her eyes and said yes!” recalls Lisa.
As it was a spontaneous proposal, the pair didn’t have rings. Their friend Elaina grabbed dental floss to tie around their fingers as makeshift engagement rings until Lisa and Angela could replace them upon returning home to Calgary.
The couple chose to get hitched at the home of Angela's parents in New Brunswick. Their outdoor DIY nuptials were decorated in lovely shades of purple with an array of gorgeous purple and cream florals, including purple lisianthus and cream hydrangeas. Lisa and Angela’s Labradoodle, Henry, also took part in the big day. “Henry walked both of us, along with our fathers, down the isle. He then sat down at our feet and gazed at us lovingly while we made our vows to one another. He just seemed to know that it was a special moment and behaved like a prince!” says Lisa.
After the wedding, Lisa and Angela led a tour of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with friends and family who had never experienced the beautiful East Coast before, biking, kayaking and eating their way across the Atlantic provinces.
