Shannon and Stephane met in second year at university, when Stephane was lab partners with Shannon’s roommate. “She invited him to our study session at the library one weekend and he never left—we have been inseparable ever since,” Shannon confesses. Fast-forward eight years to when Stephane surprised Shannon with a proposal on her birthday. “I just finished a night shift at the hospital. I was so tired and not in the best mood, but Stephane insisted my birthday celebration was going to be fabulous,” Shannon explains. “We had agreed not to exchange birthday presents. When Stephane handed me my card I didn’t think too much of it, but the bottom of the card read ‘I know we agreed not to exchange gifts, so I just got you something small’.” It was a ring, of course. Shortly after their engagement the pair chose a date and venue for their rustic fall wedding: Toronto’s Donalda Club. “We looked around, but we kept coming back to the same place,” Shannon recalls. “The fact that my parents got married there 30 years earlier made it all the more sweet.”
