A Romantic Rocky Mountain Wedding

  |  By Virginia Mashingaidze

Calgary wedding- bride and groom

Chrissie and Matt first crossed paths at Matthew's sister's wedding in 2006 but it wasn't until five years later that Matt worked up the courage to ask Chrissie out. "We discovered we liked each other a lot and were soon spending time together with family and friends," Chrissie explains. A little more than two years after their first date, Matt popped the question.

For their big day, the couple planned a romantic celebration in the mountains."We wanted the wedding to be really soft and elegant," says Chrissie. "It also needed to be classy, beautiful and fancy enough for the reception venue but soft and natural feeling for the outdoor ceremony setting. We also just wanted lots and lots of flowers and greenery so that it didn’t feel too structured. All of our stationery and signs were handmade with soft watercolour washes."

Chrissie says one of the most magical moments of the day occurred as she and Matt recited their vows. "Hearing one another articulate how much we love each other and what means the most to us was perfect," she remembers. "We were so in the moment and heard that there was not a dry eye in the audience."

The couple admit they were blown away by the beauty of their ceremony and reception spaces. "Our first look at the ceremony site with the enormous mountain backdrop, our smiling friends and family, a stunning bridal party and the beautiful flowers and arch was breathtaking," says Chrissie. The couple say they were also in awe of the way their reception decor came together with its handmade signs, personalized flowers, elegant tables, macarons and mix and match candles. "Having the day come together after all of the time and effort we put into it was beyond satisfying, especially during those first moments," says Chrissie.
