A Romantic Autumn Wedding At Toronto's Historic Enoch Turner Schoohouse

Fatima and Christopher chose to celebrate their wedding at the Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, a historic site and museum belonging to the Ontario Heritage Trust. The schoolhouse was built in 1848 by local brewer Enoch Turner to educate the neighbourhood's immigrant children.

The bride shares what inspired them to choose the schoolhouse as their wedding venue: "We had never heard of it before we toured it, but once we did, we knew it was perfect because we met in high school and started dating in Grade 12. The venue is historic, simple and beautiful and helped to tell our story."

The wedding party was a simple one, made up of the people dearest to the bride and groom. "We didn’t have a traditional bridal party, just our siblings: my sister on my side and Chris’s two brothers on his," explains Fatima. "We also had our dog, Brownie, in the bridal party, and she was so well behaved! She wore a floral collar made by our florist and surprisingly didn’t even try to eat it."

Since Fatima is from El Salvador, the newlyweds wanted to incorporate Spanish into the ceremony as much as possible. "Chris had been taking weekly Spanish lessons so that he could include Spanish in his vows, and he nailed it."

The MCs were one of the bride's oldest friends and the groom’s brother. "They were a perfect fit: Michelle is one of the most outgoing people I know and speaks fluent Spanish, while Ben is a stand-up comedian in Toronto, so they played off each other really well and set a fun tone for the entire reception," adds Fatima.

To wrap up the ceremony, a mariachi trio surprised the guests by strolling through the door playing “Si Nos Dejan” as the newlyweds walked down the aisle. The group played for the duration of the cocktail hour and had Fatima's family singing along with them.
