A Quirky, Fun Wedding At The Manitoba Children's Museum

Shawn and Kira had two wedding celebrations; the first was a very small ceremony on May 10, 2014. "This was for immediate family to keep it intimate and comfortable," Kira explains. "We then decided to have a second wedding celebration for all the friends and family that couldn’t attend our first ceremony."

The couple wanted this celebration to be quirky, fun and unexpected. "I designed the wedding at the Children’s Museum, as if it was for a child’s birthday party," Kira says. "We tried to incorporate fun at every turn, including our attire."

The wedding party wore black and white, with accents in all different colours and patterns. "I had a necklace made of gumballs, black inserts and feathers added to my dress," Kira recalls. "Our entire wedding party wore custom Converse shoes."

The reception included giant games, food stations, build-your-own cupcakes and a candy station.

"The wedding party and Shawn and I made a grand entrance into the reception via the venue’s giant slide," Kira laughs. "Everyone grabbed popcorn and pop and we took our seats to watch a tribute video made by the wedding party and a video of the first intimate ceremony." The video included favourite memories and funny anecdotes. "We loved being able to play the video of our first wedding for all our friends and family," Kira says. "They got to understand how wonderful and emotional that day was for us and why we did things the way we did."

The couple exchanged vows in front of the guests before starting the festivities. "Great food, good company, quirky photobooth pictures and dancing made for a very memorable night," Kira smiles.
