A Modern Riverside Wedding in Alban, Ontario

For Janik and Andrew, their wedding theme was largely inspired by their venue—a family property on the banks of the French River in Alban, Ontario, a small town south of Sudbury. "As a couple, we have a strong appreciate for nature and really enjoy modern spaces," Janik explains. "We really liked the idea of combining modern elements blended into a natural landscape."

The couple exchanged vows in front of a special arbour designed by their aunt and uncle. "The arbour represents two lives following parallel paths, joined by a series of moments in life," the aunt and uncle explained during a teary-eyed toast. "There are 36 slats that connect the two paths, each rotating by 10 degrees at each step to complete a full cycle of 360 degrees, representing the cycle of life."

Instead of formal speeches, the couple opted to open the floor up the toasts after the dinner. "Our rationale was that instead of formal speeches, which often stress people out and require prep in advance, we would keep things simple," Janik explains. "The result was some great heartfelt messages and lots of laughs. It was really a special moment which was set off by a beautiful golden hour light."

It was all hands on deck for Janik and Andrew and their family and friends, who helped them plan every part of their special day. "We even hosted a firewood moving party as part of the pre-wedding landscaping," the couple shares. "We were fortunate enough to be able to lean on friends and family to help us add special touches including audio setup, decor, photography, woodwork, violin and baking!"
