A picturesque campground in Parry Sound was the ideal setting for Alison and Grant’s rustic celebration. Wooden crates and Mason jars added a homey feel, while a palette of gold and grey, accented by blues, greens and pinks, complemented the natural setting.
The couple balanced the rustic feel of their celebration with several beautiful sentimental touches. “My mother passed away a number of years ago, and both Grant and I felt strongly that we wanted to honour my mom throughout the wedding planning process and on the wedding day,” Alison shares. She had her mother’s gown altered from a floor-length frock with long sleeves and a high neck to a knee-length dress with short sleeves and a scoop neck and topped off the look with the same locket that both her mother and grandmother had worn on their wedding days.
Family was also incorporated into elements of the couple’s reception with a signature drink named after Grant’s grandfather and personalized cracker favours created to resemble ones Alison’s mother was known to make. An impromptu mother and son dance was another family-related highlight. “We all found out where Grant got his killer dance moves — from his mom!” Alison laughs.
Surrounded by loved ones, the couple capped off the day by lighting sparklers under the stars. They even took turns swinging at a surprise piñata that their friends brought out. “It was such a spontaneous and fun moment for us,” Alison recalls.
