When it came time for Josh to ask for Amanda's hand in marriage he decided a family cabin on Shuswap Lake would be the perfect place to pop the question. "We spent the day relaxing in the sun, and as the sun started to go down we grabbed ourselves some chairs on the beach and sat and watched the sunset," explains Amanda. "Josh had started cooking us a delicious BBQ meal. His rule when he is cooking for me is that I have to sit and relax, and I cannot help. With that said, mid-way through cooking dinner he asked me to go inside and check on the corn, and grab us some more drinks. I thought this was weird, as I'm usually not allowed to help. I chuckled to myself and headed up to 'check the corn'. When I returned I saw a little blue box with a white ribbon around it. I looked down at the box, surprised, not knowing why he had bought me a gift. I reached down and picked up the box, and started to pull the ribbon. As I did this Josh stood up from his chair and grabbed my hand, and knelt down on one knee. I felt the blood rush to my face, as I started to tear up. He said 'Amanda, you are the woman of my dreams, and my best friend. Ever since the day we met I have been crazy about you, you mean everything to me. You know how much I love you right?' I nodded. Josh continued 'Amanda Lee Lowney, will you make me the luckiest and happiest man alive and be my wife? Will you marry me? I couldn’t even speak, I just felt tears running down my face as I nodded," says Amanda.
For their wedding day the couple planned a beautiful modern celebration in Kelowna filled with cheerful colours. Pops of blue and yellow set the tone for a fun-filled day with 100 of their closest friends and family members.
"Our favourite moment was reciting our personalized vows to each other," says Amanda. "It allowed us to express our deepest feelings for each other in front of our loved ones."
As a personal touch in their wedding, the couple made place cards for each guest with their name, meaning of their name and origin. "The guests loved this personal touch because it made each one of them feel special," says Amanda.
