Matti Gidilevich and Stephen Matyasfalvi crossed paths thanks to a mutual acquaintance. It turns out they had lived across the street from each other for years, but they had never encountered one another. They set up a Sunday afternoon coffee date, which ended eight hours later after walks, talks, dinner and a bottle of wine. They became engaged on November 19, 2010, presenting each other with custom-designed rings, which were later engraved with their wedding date. “It turns out the day we chose for our wedding was the exact date my father proposed to my mother in 1970,” Stephen exclaims. When it came to planning their wedding, Matti and Stephen admit they didn’t have a clear idea of what their party would look like. “There were a few musts,” Stephen shares. “We wanted it outside at a winery, and we knew the colour palette would be black, white and lime green. We worked closely with our planner to create a day that embodied us.” The couple hosted 100 guests at their chic country wedding celebration, which featured incredible food and drinks, including a cheese, chocolate and wine pairing station, frozen mojitos and daiquiris, a sweets table of European treats made by Stephen’s family and a food truck for midnight hot dogs, poutine and deep-fried Snickers. As for the moment that made their day, the pair says there were a few, but one of the best came during the speeches when Stephen’s father and Matti’s mother took the mic. “They both welcomed us into each other’s families,” Stephen recalls. “Their words were incredibly touching.”
