I Heart San Fran Part 4

I Heart San Fran Part 4

If you are a science geek, or love ANIMALS, you and your mister are sure to enjoy a fun and exciting journey at the California Academy of Sciences. Located in the heart of Golden Gate Park (about 30 minutes west of Union Square)–this is one excursion that promises fun and romance!

We ended up taking one of the MUNI buses to the Golden Gate Park for a scenic route, which conveniently drops you right in front of the luscious and green park–and I mean green. Tall trees, beautiful gardens, small shrubs and plants of all sizes fills up all 1017 acres of the beautiful Golden Gate Park. Once we got inside the science centre, we headed straight for the rooftop–where you're privy to a beautiful and green living roof–powered by solar energy (it gets technical, but there's a guide nearby to explain all the details). After the living roof, make your way down to the first level and ensure that you enter their rainforest–which is surrounded by macaws, small birds, butterflies and all other tropical critters.

Following our fun adventure at the science centre, we headed out early for our tour of the Alcatraz (off Pier 33–closer to the ferry building). This is definitely one hot ticket in town–if you're going during the summer you may want to book tickets in advance as they were sold out weeks prior (especially the evening tour). NOTE: Alcatraz Cruises is the only tour where you actually get to hop onto the island–all other cruises are only allowed to circle the jail. Not exactly the most romantic place to visit–but definitely a historical venture that you won't want to miss out on. If you've seen the movie Escape From Alcatraz by Clint Eastwood–clearly this was the jail the movie was based on. My advice? Go for the free audio tour, it'll give you more in depth knowledge of what actually went on throughout the years–rather than wondering around the venue yourself.

For dinner, we opted for a more casual joint–Nick's Crispy Tacos. Recommended by supermodel Christy Turlington and her sisters via Goop (an e-newsletter written by Gwenyth Paltrow), we decided to go and see what the fuss was all about. The food and the atmosphere (think upscale fast food joint) were eccentric but amazing nonetheless. I recommend the nachos topped with guacomole goodness. And, if you happen to wander by during happy hour–margaritas are only $3 a glass!
