Honeymoon in Antigua

Honeymoon in Antigua

For those of you who follow myself or the Weddingbells team on Twitter then you may have heard I came back from vacation in Antigua. I've never been there before and for any of you looking for a sunny honeymoon destination I would absolutely recommend it. Boasting their 365 beaches (one for every day of the year), the landscape is lush and mountainous, weather hot and people very friendly.

Honeymoon in Antigua

I stayed at Carlisle Bay, located on the south side of the island, which was fabulous. The beach is literally steps away from your front door, pretty much where ever you are on the resort. The food was delicious too! I had so many good meals, including some local dishes and fresh seafood. There's a spa on site, as well as eight tennis courts and a gym. Another daily treat we enjoyed was the complimentary afternoon tea and fresh fruit in the room. There's also great beach service too, so if you don't want to leave the sun and sand you don't have to.

There are about 30 resorts in total on the island including the eco-friendly Verandah Resort & Spa and for those wanting all-inclusive, a Sandals too. If you're the kind of couple who like to do activities off the resort, then you'll love the options in Antigua. We had an exhilarating experience sailing (okay maybe it was a little scary). I snorkeled for the first time and we walked in the rainforest up to the top of a mountain with some breathtaking views of the island (worth the exhaustion). If getting your groove on is a must then head up to Shirley Heights on Sunday night for music, BBQ and the sunset. It's a unique mix of locals and tourists. Cool fact: designer Giorgio Armani has a house there (we got to see it from the water on a boat trip). Wonder if Katie and Tom have been for a visit?

Craving a getaway? Enter to win our trip for two to Jade Mountain in St. Lucia valued at $25,000.
