Hello from London! William & Kate fever has certainly gripped this city and there's not a nook or cranny that hasn't been polished up and decked in it's Royal Wedding best.
Arriving early at Heathrow yesterday, my customs agent seemed gobsmacked when she asked me: "What brings you to London at this time of year?" "The Royal Wedding," I chirped. "You foreigners are much more excited about this than we are." With that comment I wasn't sure what to expect in the city, but make no mistake, Londontown is pumped for this party. Union Jack banners are strung outside every pub. Store windows from Harrods, to Harvey Nichols to Selfridges pay homage to the wedding of the century. Everywhere Kate eats, shops, spas and socials is white hot. And of course, the kitsch factor is also high with Wills & Kate merch available on every street corner.
A full 72 hours pre-event, people started tenting outside Westminster Abbey to secure a prime place to spy the newlyweds. Paps also began setting up shop outside The Goring, the posh hotel just steps from Buckingham Palace where Kate will spend her last night as a singleton and 'commoner.'
With six, 20 foot maple trees installed in the Abbey on Wednesday as part of Kate's wedding decor, the dress spec has now hit fever pitch. What will she possibly wear to walk down the enchanted aisle she's created? Only one more sleep until we find out!
