Student working hard on a couture cake.
Bonnie Gordon, simply put, the "queen of cakes" has been busy with her students this week at the Bonnie Gordon School teaching them all about wedding cake design. Bonnie, who was an integral part of our 25th anniversary party (providing 26 stunning cakes designed by her students and alumni members), was more than happy to share with us the process she takes her students on when it comes to creating a one-of-a-kind creation for a wedding!
Here's what she had to say: "On Monday each student received a 'client' outlining the design criteria for their wedding cake such as colour, theme and time of year. The students are all up to the challenge and each cake is as unique as their assigned client. There is quiet chitchat from the corner where fall leaves are being created for an autumn themed wedding and silent concentration as another student carefully hand beads her cake with tiny silver dragees. Across the room gumpaste roses are being assembled petal by petal. The room is full of creative energy and it’s always exciting to watch the cakes evolve!"
