I'm certainly accustomed to hearing “please do not use, carnations, gladiolus, mums, and leather fern!” But I have learned that every flower has its purpose, and if designed right, is magnificent.
I'm not in the habit of using glads on a regular basis, but this bride needed to have oranges that matched her colour scheme closely (to the extent of me taking the colour swatch up to individual flowers to insure they co-ordinated!). It was worth it, the room came together with this beautiful punch of colour, provided by the flowers and the napkins, making the venue look like a well thought work of art!
If you feel that colour is incredibly important to your wedding, give your florist freedom to find flowers that work well within that colour. Specify the style of the arrangements that you are looking for, and then allow them to be creative. If you pick a designer, who's work you love, the result will be dazzling!
