Since it opened at the end of last summer, Whispering Springs has become one of the province’s most sought-after places to connect with nature—without ever having to set up a tent or start a fire. Husband-and-wife team John and Nancy Corcoran know a thing or two about pampering off the beaten path: John’s family owns Ste. Anne’s Spa, and the couple spent the previous decade sailing around the Bahamas on their boat. Their 150-acre Northumberland property is now dotted with a saltwater pool, organic garden and ten spacious prospector tents outfitted with king beds and soaker tubs, in which guests can relax with room service champagne and a game of scrabble.
The pair were initially surprised when the wedding requests came flooding in immediately after they opened, and this summer decided to amp up their nuptial offerings even more. The latest addition? A magical-looking chapel in the midst of an old growth pine and cedar forest, with wooden pews, an altar and antique windows and doors suspended between the trees. They also have an open-air guest pavilion, which can easily hold a rustic, family-style reception, and a new cocktail tent next-door can serve up boozy craft creations. For couples whose ideal celebration ends with skinny-dipping in the pond or s’mores around the campfire, it doesn’t get more romantic.
