Mount Kenya
We love hearing about how he proposed and when it came to the royal couple, there's no doubt we definitely wanted the scoop. According to Hello Magazine, the romantic gesture happened during their trip to Kenya this past October. William took Kate by a secluded lake on the slopes of Mount Kenya. It is speculated William borrowed a helicopter to fly there, as the two lakes -- Lake Alice and Lake Michaelson -- are only accessible via air. With the backdrop of the Rift Valley, 12,500ft above sea level, William asked Kate's hand in marriage, giving her the stunning sapphire engagement ring, which was his mother's.

Kenya is not only a place special to William, as he spent time working at Lewa Downs -- a conservatory owned by his friend -- during his gap year after Eton College, but to the royal family as well. William's grandmother Elizabeth 11 learned she had beomce queen during her stay at the Treetops lodge in Nyeri with husband Prince Philip, when her father George VI died.
The pair were staying with friends in a Maasai lodge called Il Ngwesi, just north of Mount Kenya. The luxury retreat offers open-air accommodations, incredible views of the surrounding landscape and nearby wildlife.
