Hot Wedding Colour: Merlot
Merlot, oxblood, pomegranate, burgundy, bordeaux --- whatever you choose to call it, this dramatic deep red hue is huge in fashion this fall and into spring 2013. It's also an amazing wedding colour to work into your big day. For fall, designers including Rodarte, Alexander Wang and Haider Ackermann showed pieces in this stunning colour. We knew merlot was going to be a popular wedding colour when Vera Wang showed big, beautiful gowns in this shade (as well as red and aubergine) as part of her famous spring 2013 bridal collection. And if Vera endorses, you know it’s a hot wedding colour!
Though merlot is not likely the first shade you would consider as a wedding colour (or a wedding dress colour!) there really are several ways to incorporate this chic shade into your day. Consider including rich coloured flowers (oxblood dahlias are one of our favourites) in your centrepieces, bouquets and boutonnieres, short, sleek merlot bridesmaid dresses, a pair of sexy merlot heels, red velvet cake, dramatic merlot lip colour and jewel-toned nail colour. To make the most of your merlot, consider a tone-on-tone wedding colour palette of similar red-based shades like eggplant, crimson or even a warm pink.
