Micro-weddings have been gaining in popularity in recent years and are likely to dominate the 2021 season. Whether you’re a fan of intimate affairs or are making plans to follow your local guidelines, micro-weddings present a wonderful opportunity to elevate your wedding day florals for a more intimate setting and create a very intentional and detailed design scheme.

Here are my suggestions on essentials to include in your intimate wedding day and thoughts on taking these arrangements level up.

Floral Must Haves for Your Micro-Wedding

Personal Flowers
A bridal bouquet is a quintessential part of the bride’s look—it really is the finishing touch, and it will appear in nearly every photo of your day. Now is the time to splurge on the bouquet of your dreams. Get those sumptuous orchids you have been eyeing or better yet, ask your florist to design a unique combination in your preferred colour palette. Many times, when given the creative license to do so, floral designers will come up with something beyond your wildest dreams. Don’t forget coordinating boutonnieres for the men and consider adding additional details like florals for your hairstyle.

Ceremony Focal Point
Your intimate wedding will be ceremony–focused and is deserving of a beautiful focal point, whether in the form of a floral arch or collection of altar pieces. You are getting married after all and a micro-wedding is the perfect opportunity to splurge on an eye-catching design as a backdrop to your nuptials. Some couples will choose to only have a ceremony element on their day, while others will have the reception in the same space as the ceremony so the ceremony décor will be a focal point for the entire event. It will also provide a beautiful backdrop for your wedding portraits as well as a welcomed photo op for your guests to take their own photos.

Elevated Tablescape
If you can host a small reception for the guests in attendance, consider creating a lovely, statement tablescape. The largest portion of the floral budget is usually designated to reception décor and with only a few tables to decorate, you can really up the attention to detail in this area without breaking the bank. Incorporating bountiful florals, candles and other design details will leave your guests with a lasting visual impression and create a lovely ambiance for your event.

Your wedding day will be one forever held in your heart and an intimate micro-wedding is an incredible special experience. It provides a great opportunity to incorporate meaningful design and an additional level of detail that will wow your guests and provide an elevated visual experience you and your new spouse will never forget.
