Engagement Ring 101: Tiffany & Co. Started The Tradition Of Proposing With A Diamond

  |   By Alison McGill

Some of the classic things in life are the best, and the Tiffany Setting engagement ring is definitely one of them. This year, Tiffany & Co. is marking a major milestone—they are 175 years old! We don’t think anyone has ever looked better at that age, so glittery and sparkly. One thing you might not know about Tiffany & Co’s storied history is that Charles Lewis Tiffany, one of the founders of the company, actually created the tradition of proposing with a diamond ring when he created the Tiffany Setting engagement ring.

The Tiffany Setting engagement ring is still one of Tiffany’s most popular engagement ring styles today and when it made its debut back in 1886 it truly wowed the world—nobody had ever seen such a dazzling diamond ring before! The Tiffany setting engagement ring is simple and elegant, but that is what makes it so special.  The stone is supported by six prongs above the band allowing maximum light to pass through the stone, which of course translates in to maximum sparkle! Over the years, Tiffany has expanded its offering of engagement styles to include the Lucida, Etoile, Legacy, Novo, Embrace, Grace, Bezet and Soleste. We’d love to know what your perfect Tiffany engagement ring is—tell us which dazzler you love and why.
